Driverless car pulled over by police officer makes for a surprise road-side encounter.
A police officer in Mountain View, California had a bit of a surprise, when he pulled over a vehicle that was moving too slowly.  Moving only 24 mph in a 35 mph zone, traffic was piling up behind the pokey car.
But upon approaching the vehicle, he found that there was no driver- it was one of Google’s Autonomous cars!  “Do you know why I pulled you over today…uh, “car?”  Fortunately, there was a passenger in the vehicle, monitoring the testing equipment.  He was able to answer the officer’s questions about how Google sets the top speed in its Autonomous vehicles.
It turns out that Google intentionally sets a 25 mph speed ceiling for its test vehicles, out of an abundance of caution.  Apparently this information satisfied the officer, who let the “car” off with just a warning.
